Angela Drew of Light & Clay Ceramics

Moving to Tacoma, WA, in August 2020 I wanted to dig myself into the community. My fiancé and I plan on staying here long-term, and I am the type of individual who needs to be a part of a community.

I started exploring the neighborhoods, uncovering parks like a free blueberry Metro Park (yes, free blueberry picking), small businesses, artists, breweries, and more. We wanted to get bring some plants into our space, so we visited a local small business, The Fernseed.

Long story short, I reached out to the owner and asked if I could have her contact list of vendors she utilizes. Vendors that make pots, accessories, vases, etc. I wanted to photograph some of her vendors, and in exchange she could put images of them in her shop. The Fernseed focuses on local makers, and women led businesses, so this was a perfect opportunity to bring that community to the forefront.

I reached out to Angela Drew, who creates stunning pots, and asked if she would oblige me in taking portraits of her. After a visit to the pottery studio, she agreed and we got it done. It was incredibly interesting how skilled she was on the wheel creating these humongous pots in mere minutes. The amount of hours that must have went in to training her arms, muscles, and eye to be so consistent, is inspiring.

Enjoy these images, a few are now in my portfolio. You can see my full commercial portfolio here.
