Less Than Greater Than

In the back of an ice cream shop in a small New England town, you can find a door with a light switch next to it. There is a small blurb about what is behind the door, specifically about a shoe cobbler. Flip that switch and you will soon find out that even though from the street there is shoe cobbler equipment in the window, it’s no such thing.

My fiancé and I were exiting a pizza shop across the street. We walked by a group of individuals who said, ‘is that where the speakeasy is?’ Obviously, we slowed our walk significantly and acted like we were looking at a shop window, but we wanted the details. The group crossed the street and entered though the ice cream shop, and we saw them walk to the back corner.

So, the following weekend we walked into the ice cream shop and very awkwardly walked to the general area the group had gone. I’m sure we looked utterly lost, but we figured it out after a few minutes. The restaurant/bar behind this door is incredibly well run with superb drinks, food, and atmosphere.

I reached out to the ownership group that owns both the speakeasy and ice cream shop. I wanted to photograph their staff who create this incredible experience. At this point, the speakeasy was fairly well documented in local publications so the secret was out. The owners and staff were kind enough to let me come in one day before opening. The morning resulted in some stunning images that were immediately added to my portfolio.

Enjoy these images, you can see my full editorial & commercial portfolio here.
