Hans Schneider Cycles

I wanted to try something new. I began photographing Sam Houston State seniors in 2011, and it was incredible learning that specific type of photography. But I wanted a new challenge.

At the time I was working in Marketing on campus and we were giving away a bike to a lucky student. Little did I know when the bike was purchased that it came in pieces, not put together. So I looked up local bicycle shops and found Hans Schneider. He was kind enough to put the bike together for us and tweak it to ensure it was up to snuff and safe for a student to utilize on a daily basis.

Upon my first visit to drop the bike off I was intrigued by his main source of income, building race bikes from scratch in his shop, shipping these bikes all over the world. When I stopped by to pick up the bicycle post-adjustments I let him know I wanted to photograph him.

I saw Hans, his personality, and his shop as the perfect first subject for my new challenge.

He was kind enough to oblige, and incredibly relaxed while I was figuring everything out. My absolute favorite shots from the day are images in which he was just looking off, or talking to my assistant off-camera. (Thanks fiancé for the assist, by the way!)

I hope you enjoy this set, and you can find the select few I chose to include in my portfolio over on the Commercial Portfolio page.

If you would like to learn more about Hans you can find his website here, and find a short article about him here.
